Personal Training

"I have been training with Akane consistently for 1.5 years and it is honestly one of the best decisions you will ever make. Akane is incredibly knowledgeable about the sciences revolving around the human body and is a master at making and teaching effective workout programs. With them I have achieved all my body and transition related goals past and present. Akane's expertise is unmatched but so is their kindness, PATIENCE, and communication skills. I always have so much fun and confidence training with their guidance!" - Nar S. (he/they)

I am a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, specializing in functional strength and mobility training. I have worked previously as a Tier 3 Personal Trainer at Equinox, and hold additional certifications in Functional Range Conditioning, TRX Training, and post-injury exercise. I have had the privilege of working as a trainer since October 2021.

My movement philosophy is trauma-informed, trans-centered, anti-fatphobic, intuitive, and education-oriented. I practice from the understanding that our bodies are wise, healing and growth are cyclical, and we are each capable of vast strength. My goal is to empower each client to become confident and self-sufficient in their workouts.

My programs are highly tailored to individual needs, and appropriately challenging to those new to strength training as well as those who are experienced. Beginner clients can expect to gain a strong foundation in strength training; intermediate and advanced clients can expect to gain a deeper insight into the body and somatic systems.

I offer 1-hour sessions, which include a warm-up, full body strength training, and a cool-down. Sessions can be offered to individuals or couples. Training programs typically run 6 weeks, and can be structured in the following ways:

  • Meeting 1-3 times a week over the course of 4-6 weeks (recommended for beginner to intermediate clients)
  • Meeting 1-3 times a week for the first 2-4 weeks (recommended for intermediate clients)
  • Meeting just once (recommended for advanced clients)

Because my goals are to empower each client to feel confident and self-sufficient in working out, I cap training with each client at 6 cycles maximum (typically this takes around one year to complete). 6 cycles gives ample time to master the foundations and useful variations of bodyweight and free weight training and to leave a client in a place that is confident and well-resourced.

Sessions can be facilitated in your home or at a park using light weights, resistance bands, and the TRX suspension system, or at select gyms in Brooklyn.

Sessions are offered at sliding scale pricing:
$80-$120 per individual session (60 minutes)
$80-$160 per couples sessions (60 minutes)
$100-$120 per one-off session (60 minutes)

“It was a pleasure to have Akane as my personal trainer. They are extremely focused and after asking many questions I felt they had a great understanding of my personal needs and challenges. I was looking for a holistic approach with some emphasis on core and hamstrings. They put together a very exciting and challenging workout regimen with this focus in mind, that was highly effective and fun at the same time. They also gave me a lot of homework that I kept coming back to.” - Jurgen B.

“Had the best personal training experience with Akane, they are very knowledgeable, patient, warm, and attentive. They tailored my training plan based on my goals of posture correction, improving my performance in sports climbing and running. I can feel that I am getting stronger and performing better while doing my usual sports activities since I started training with Akane. Would highly recommend Akane to my friends and family.” - Anonymous
